What is Web Rugby

WebRugby is a website designed specifically for school and club rugby, with the focus mainly on schools. Its purpose is to provide a platform for live scoring for any schools that use the WebRugby Electronic Scoring system, designed by Cobitech. This in turn allows anyone who cannot be at the game to follow real time scores as they happen. This has proven to be hugely beneficial for parents, many of whom cannot be at their children's games due to work or other commitments!

Besides providing live feeds for rugby games, the WebRugby system also offers the schools fantastic features such as video and statistical analysis. Video analysis has fast become an integral coaching tool in schools, and there are few products currently in the market that can offer you both video analysis and live scoring at a cost effective price. A few schools were selected to test out the product in 2011, and we are happy to announce that the feedback was fantastic, so be sure to follow WebRugby.co.za once the rugby season kicks off in 2012.

We truly hope that you will enjoy the experience that the WebRugby site offers you. If you have any queries regarding the site, please don't hesitate to email us at administrator@cobitech.co.za.

How does WebRugby work?

Capturing the data to be used for live scoring and player analysis can be achieved in this simple 5 step process:

Step 1

Once you've captured all the player and team information, create a new fixture and open the scoring form. You will use this form to capture certain match stats in real time. This is the information that gets broadcast live over the internet and includes Score, Possession, Territory, Lineout, Scrum, Handling Error and Penalty statistics.

Step 1

Step 2

Once the match is completed you will then code the game by loading the video of the match and tagging the match events to the video. You can now pause the video as you code to capture more information on the match, such as Rucks (Pass, Pick & Go etc.), Kicks (Up and Under, Found Touch, Grubber etc.), Tackles Made/Missed and much more. Once you are finished with the game, the system will then link in the Possession and Territory Statistics from Step 1.

Step 2

Step 3

Once you are finished coding you then open the 'Video Analysis' form and select the game you want to analyse. There is a drop down box that will allow you to select any type of match event, e.g. Lineouts, Scrums, Penalties, Tackles Missed/Made etc. The Event List will then be populated with all the selected Event Type events and the time they took place in the game. Clicking on the event will automatically jump to that event in the video (You can set how many seconds build up you may want before the event). Double-clicking on the actual video will take you to full screen mode for better viewing. You can then use the arrow keys to move back and forth between the events and to slow/speed up the video. Shortcut keys are also available in Full Screen mode to jump between different events (i.e. Clicking 'S' will queue up the Scrums, 'P' for Penalties, 'M' for Mauls, 'L' for Lineouts etc.)

Step 3

Step 4

You can now move between the different events and tag the players that were involved as you are analysing. Select the option to Tag players and once an event is selected, simply click on any player buttons that were involved in the event. In the example below you would click on the 3 Front rowers to indicate that they were involved in the scrum.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the players are tagged to the events you can then have one-on-one sessions with each player, seamlessly moving through the different areas of the game that they were involved in. you can also go to ‘Full Screen’ mode and use the arrow keys to move to the different events.

Step 5

Reports

The WebRugby system also produces Match Analysis Reports. Below is an example of such a report. Development is currently underway to further develop these reports to combine seasonal and individual player reports.
